Gabriel Turns Three

The more children we have the more quickly time seems to pass. Perhaps I’m just busier so savoring the moments grows more difficult. Nevertheless, three years have passed since Gabriel Joseph made his appearance a week before we expected, arriving just a day after Jack’s birthday and giving his Granddaddy an extra special birthday present. Gabriel had a rough beginning reentering the hospital when he was five days old and spending two and half weeks there with viral meningitis. We had a few days in that time when we didn’t know if he would live and some time afterwards didn’t know if there would be any long-term effects from his illness. Now at age three, you would never know of his difficult beginning. I think often of the many prayers said for him and the ways the church ministered to us in those times and give thanks to God for restoring him to us. I know others are not always given the answer to their prayers in the same way we were. The picture above was just after he opened his eyes for the first time after being unconscious for almost four days.

Gabriel loves to laugh and tease and mimics his brothers in everything. His birthday wish this year from us was a motorcycle “that goes by itself.” Happy birthday, sweet boy!

About Wendy McCollum

I am a single mom to five wonderful boys. Life is an adventure, with many twists and turns. We live in hope, always, for our great God can redeem all things. There are so many funny and precious moments that slip by too fast. Perhaps here I can save them for when my own memory fails.
