For those of you who I haven’t told, the phonics/reading/writing/spelling program we are using is called Spell to Write and Read. It reverses the typical order of learning to read and then spell to learning to spell and then read. These first few weeks we have been working on recognizing and writing the first 26 phonograms and gluing and ungluing words by their sounds. With a decent foundation in that, this week we have plunged ahead and started spelling by dictation. Rather than see and copy the words, they have to hear the word and think to spell it before they see it written for the first time. Yesterday went okay, though it was a learning process for us. Today went a bit more smoothly. Here is Isaac and Stephen’s work from the last 2 days. Not bad at all I think for their first words!
