A Lesson in Math and Geography

I’m still a bit out of routine since the trip, but I am trying to catch up.

As we were driving from Jackson, Tennessee to our friends’ house in Birmingham, Alabama Stephen asked how much longer it would be before we got there.

“About two more hours,” I said.

There was a bit of a pause and then, “Oh, I guess we’re still at Granddaddy’s then.”

Confused by this sarcasm I asked, “Why do you say that?”

“Well,” said Stephen, “You said it was six hours from Nonie’s to Birmingham, and we drove four hours to Granddaddy’s house from Nonie’s, so it should only take two hours to get to the Roberts’ house.”

So after praising his math skills, we had a brief lesson in directions and geography all the while me wishing it really were only two hours.
