Peanut Party

This week a package arrived from Mike and Kathy bearing Christmas gifts. But I wonder when they sent the package if they knew the fun in store even before Christmas arrives. This box was enormous and it was filled with every child’s delight–packing peanuts! Now had the box been smaller, they might have played with a few and been done, but this box was a swimming pool of peanuts and I couldn’t let the opportunity pass. Here are Gabriel and Sebastian testing the waters (please notice the cleanliness of the floor because I’m not sure if it will ever be that way again):

Sebastian wasn’t too sure at first, but Gabriel’s enthusiasm and the arrival of the older brothers on the scene quickly assured him it was alright. This kept them entertained through the entire supper preparation. It was peanut-covered children who came to the dinner table, quickly ate their food, and returned to their box until time to prepare for bed.

I'm not sure why, but Gabriel especially was a magnet for the peanuts.

They took turns burying one another. At one point Isaac was completely submerged. I did a head count before taking the box out to the garage to make sure no one was still in there.

By the time they were finished, there was only a shallow layer of peanuts in the bottom of the box. The rest could be found carpeting the floor in the living room, and the kitchen, and the bathroom, and the playroom, and down the stairs, and the entry way. I should have taken a picture before sweeping and vacuuming. A few remaining peanuts can be found stuck on the walls and furniture and on my children now sleeping snug in their beds.

Thanks, Gran and Pap.  They had a terrific time.
