This week Ron and Paula made their after Christmas trip to see us. Last year when they came there was snow piled up to the top of the mail box and temperatures were well below zero. This year they enjoyed much milder weather with hardly any snow and the temperature reaching into the forties one day. This allowed some night-time planet watching and even playing outside until time for the international space station to pass by. Stephen has taken quite an interest in planets lately and enjoyed the app on Ron’s iPad which showed the stars’ and planets’ locations.
We made a trip to Space Aliens at lunch for the boys. This is a civilized version of Chuckie Cheese with better food and a game area away from where you eat. The walls are decorated with science fiction artwork which is interesting to look at. The boys are old enough now to go into the game room unattended which allows time for grown ups to talk with fewer interruptions, except for Sebastian, who even though he was attended I had to retrieve from the skee-ball ramp. The boys enjoyed their own icecream sundae which they all enjoyed, though I’m not sure anyone enjoys icecream quite as much as Gabriel who savours every bite so slowly it is soup by the time he finishes. But he does finish, to the very last drop.
Sebastian kept himself entertained with his latest trick of putting things on his head.Isaac and Stephen received The Incredibles and Cars 2 as gifts so we spent time each day watching these with the gift bearers. The boys all received legos–big ones for the little boys and little ones for the big boys, but that deserves a post all its own. The boys liked Adam’s and my gifts as well–new Michael Card albums for me and an X-box game for Adam that they like to watch him play on occasion.
Nana took on the very ambitious project of making reindeer cookies with the boys. They enjoyed this very much, both the decorating and the eating. The boys are rarely allowed to play on my phone or iPad, so Granddaddy and Nana, bearing two iPads with games to play for little boys bring a very special treat indeed. This trip to boys were introduced to the game Angry Birds and I confess to trying it myself (but don’t tell the boys!) and finding it rather addictive.
Sebastian isn’t much for snuggling anyone except his momma, but Gabriel curled up with Nana and they both had an afternoon nap.Unfortunately at the end of their visit I came down with a stomach bug, but Ron and Paula graciously came bearing Sprite for me and took the older boys out to play at the mall, while I rested at home with Sebastian, which allowed Adam, who had offered to stay home to care for the boys and me, to return to work.
