It’s complicated

My mom recently bought the boys new shoes. She is wonderful about that. In fact, I really can’t remember the last time I bought shoes for my children, except for the occasional pair of flip flops. I had requested specifically shoes that tied for Jack, so he can learn how to tie them, and shoes that velcro for Gabriel so he could get them on himself, and she complied.

My plan however, has not been effective. Jack has lived in flip flops since the weather has turned warm. I don’t blame him really as that is my footwear of choice also. Gabriel continues to insist that he cannot put on his shoes, though he has done it a time or two. Today has he was whining over not being able to put on his shoes I gave very clear instructions: unfasten the shoe, put in your foot, and fasten the shoe. His response, which began with a deep and sorrowful sigh: “It’s complicated.”
