Holiday World

Last year my parents took the four biggest boys and me to Holiday World in Santa Clause, IN. We had a terrific time. This fall I asked if we might go again with Sebastian. We went their last weekend open, on a cool Saturday. Adam decided to come with us too as did my mom’s young friend Courtney (who was a great help with the boys).

The first excitement of the day for Jack and Gabriel was getting a turn to ride in Nonie and Grandpa’s new van which has the luxury of a DVD player. This was their first experience watching a move while driving down the road and road trips might never be quite as exciting in our car again. Isaac and Stephen got there turn on the way home and sat in the garage until it was over.

We started off in the small riders area so Sebastian could get some rides in before moving on to bigger things. Isaac, Stephen, and Jack still fall within the parameters for these rides, though they are not quite as exciting as they were last year and they looked a bit funny with their long legs nearly touching the ground. There was a miniature version of a free fall ride which was a favorite of theirs. Gabriel was not quite tall enough to ride and was a little upset about that, but he quickly found a smile laughing at his brothers’ expressions as they rode.

When we got to the swings we discovered Jack now is taller as well as heavier than his older brothers and he made the cutoff to ride while they were an inch or so shy of the mark. Sebastian must have been feeling big, he thought he might make the height requirement as well.

We rode the Revolution a few times during our visit and the boys rode the kid’s roller coaster numerous times. The roller coaster was Gabriel’s favorite ride. In exchange for the cold weather we had very short lines. I’m not sure Dad and Adam thought it was a great trade-off. Dad retired our last couple of hours to the warmth of Kringle Kafe. Adam returned to the car with a very tired Sebastian for the last hour while we finished up a few more rides. I had told the boys we could ride the Log Ride (a water ride) as the very last thing so we didn’t risk walking around wet, but unfortunately they must have closed it at dark. The boys were disappointed. They ate dinner in the car on the way home and went quickly to bed after arriving home. Adam and I left the sleeping boys in the care of my mom and dad and went out for a late dinner alone.

About Wendy McCollum

I am a single mom to five wonderful boys. Life is an adventure, with many twists and turns. We live in hope, always, for our great God can redeem all things. There are so many funny and precious moments that slip by too fast. Perhaps here I can save them for when my own memory fails.
