This year we celebrated the Fourth of July the weekend before at Mike and Kathy’s house. The boys had been asking for a fire to roast hotdogs and marshmallows for a while now, and, due to a tree that needed to be taken down, their Pap really outdid himself.
Once the mammoth fire died down enough to get close to it (close being a relative term, seeing that we had to forgo the traditional roasting sticks since they were too short and used the frog gigs instead) we cooked hot dogs and brats. We followed those with roasted marshmallows and s’mores, cookies, strawberry jello salad from Mrs. Mathis, and plenty of lemonade. I discovered the deliciousness of using a Rollo instead of Hersey’s chocolate on the s’more. Pap gave rides on the tractor.Gabriel hunted caterpillars and shared them with his cousins. Sebastian snuggled with his gran. And we enjoyed one another’s company. I asked if we could leave them all there for an overnight while the sugar wore off, but I was turned down.
