Fourth of July

This year we celebrated the Fourth of July the weekend before at Mike and Kathy’s house. The boys had been asking for a fire to roast hotdogs and marshmallows for a while now, and, due to a tree that needed to be taken down, their Pap really outdid himself.IMG_5354IMG_0731

Once the mammoth fire died down enough to get close to it (close being a relative term, seeing that we had to forgo the traditional roasting sticks since they were too short and used the frog gigs instead) we cooked hot dogs and brats. We followed those with roasted marshmallows and s’mores, cookies, strawberry jello salad from Mrs. Mathis, and plenty of lemonade. I discovered the deliciousness of using a Rollo instead of Hersey’s chocolate on the s’more. Pap gave rides on the tractor.IMG_5342IMG_5337Gabriel hunted caterpillars and shared them with his cousins. IMG_0735Sebastian snuggled with his gran. IMG_5351And we enjoyed one another’s company. IMG_5350IMG_5340I asked if we could leave them all there for an overnight while the sugar wore off, but I was turned down.

We went to Miranda’s house for a water day on the fourth. The weather was cool and rainy, so it wasn’t ideal, but the children had a good time anyway.IMG_5365 IMG_5361 IMG_5357

About Wendy McCollum

I am a single mom to five wonderful boys. Life is an adventure, with many twists and turns. We live in hope, always, for our great God can redeem all things. There are so many funny and precious moments that slip by too fast. Perhaps here I can save them for when my own memory fails.
