Trying to find the balance in home schooling this year has been difficult. I have wrestled with trying to get work with the older boys done without feeling like I have totally ignored the younger ones. And trying to accomplish lessons with multiple interruptions has been frustration for everyone.
I recently discovered the YMCA has a preschool program and so I made some inquires. At the very mention of the possibility of going to preschool Gabriel was packing his bag and counting down the days until he could start. He and Sebastian are among the most outgoing of our five and the most social and they were happy to head off to a class of their own and haven’t missed me a bit. (I have to chase them down for a good-bye kiss.)
So now they are in school, Tuesday-Thursday from 8:30-12:30. Last Tuesday was their first day and since the Valentine’s party from the week before had been cancelled since schools were closed for threatening weather, they had a Valentine’s party on their first day of class. Last Thursday the older boys and I joined them for family swim. So far the declared highlight has been the Valentine’s party and the packed lunches, but they are often found singing songs they have learned.
